Return to Cricklade

The Swindon & Cricklade Railway currently terminates just over 1 mile from the outskirts of Cricklade. The aim is to reinstate the railway line to Cricklade on the original railway formation.

We are now seeking funds to progress our development northwards towards Cricklade.

In Phase 1 we aim to lay 600 yards of track up to Farfield Lane cutting.

We need to raise £100,000 to recover and refurbish the trackbed and embankments, and also to purchase ballast.

Running a Heritage Railway and our plans for the future

Our Permanent Way volunteers have relayed the level crossing at South Meadow Lane and track is now being layed towards Cricklade.

June 2021 - Thank you to "The Hills Group Ltd"

As part of our push on our Northern Extension, we are pleased to announce that a damaged and collapsing main culvert just north of South Meadow Lane, has now been excavated, replaced with a steel pipe, and the track-bed re-levelled ready for track laying.
The original brick culvert had survived for over 130 years, but with the ravages of time and the ingress of tree roots, the supporting wall was severely cracked and leaning.  The brick arch itself was also failing underneath.
We need to say a huge thank you to local company “The Hills Group Ltd” for providing the grant funding to enable this vital work to happen, and to the Community First - Wiltshire organisation for facilitating our grant application on behalf of the “Landfill Communities Fund”.
