"TRAIN DIVIDED" SIGNAL.

        17. - Should a train become divided in running, and pass a Tablet Station in two portions, the Signalman must give the Train Divided signal to the Tablet Station in advance when the first portion leaves his Station, and repeat this signal when the second portion passed him, and in such cases the Signalman at the Tablet Station in advance must act as he may consider best under the circumstances.

TRAIN OR VEHICLES RUNNING AWAY.

        18. - If any vehicle or portion of a train has escaped, or is running away, the Signalman at the Tablet Station in advance must be advised of the fact by the Signalman at the Tablet Station in the rear giving the prescribed signal indicating that vehicles are running away ; and the Signalman receiving the signal must immediately exhibit the Danger signal at his signals to stop any train going towards the Tablet Station from which the signal was received, and arrange for the Line on which the vehicle are running to be cleared, and, if necessary, send the signal forward, and take such other protective measures as he may consider most expedient under the circumstances.

SECTION CLEAR AND STATION OR JUNCTION BLOCKED.

        19. - When the Line is clear to the Home Signal, and it is necessary for a train to be allowed to approach a Tablet Station cautiously, in consequence of an obstruction existing ahead of the Home Signal, or from any other cause, the Is Line Clear? signal must not be acknowledged, but the signal, Section Clear and Station or Junction Blocked (13 beats) must be given, which signal must be acknowledged, and when this has been done, permission permission may be given to the Tablet Station in the rear for a Tablet to be withdrawn. The Signalman receiving such signal must stop the approaching train and, when handing the Tablet to the Driver, instruct him to proceed cautiously to the Tablet Station from which the signal was received. When some time is likely to elapse before the train for which the Is Line Clear? signal has been sent will be ready to enter the section, the Section Clear and Station or Junction Blocked signal must not be acknowledged ; but when the train is ready to enter the section, and before it is allowed to do so, the Is Line Clear? signal must be again sent to as to give the Signalman at the Tablet Station in advance an opportunity of acknowledging it, if the circumstances are so altered as to admit of his doing so.

ENGINE BECOMING DISABLED.

        20. - In the event of an engine becoming disabled between two Tablet Stations, the Fireman must take the Tablet to the Tablet Station from which assistance is most likely to be obtained, and, after informing the Signalman, must personally hand over the Tablet to the Driver of the engine appointed to proceed to the assistance of the disabled engine, and accompany him to the place where he left his own engine. The Driver of the assisting engine must not allow it to pass out of his possession until the disabled engine with the whole of the train (if any) is removed clear of the section, except when the line is obstructed, and special arrangements are made for working in accordance with clause 21.

WHEN LINE IS OBSTRUCTED.

        21. - Should the accident be of such a nature as to obstruct the road, and traffic is likely to be stopped for any considerable time, special arrangements must be made by the Guard for working the trains to and from the Tablet Station on each side of the point of obstruction. The Tablet must be retained to work trains between the point of obstruction and the Tablet Station from which the Tablet was issued, and, on the other side, the traffic must be conducted by a Pilotman, in accordance with clause 23.
         The Guard must put the driver in charge of the point of obstruction, and go himself to the end of the section to which the train was proceeding, and arrange for Pilot Working between that Station and the point of obstruction. The Driver, when put in charge, must hand the Tablet to the Fireman, and instruct him to take it back to the Tablet Station from which is was issued, to work trains between that Station and the point of obstruction until the Line is clear, when it must be dealt with in accordance with the instructions contained in clause 22.

WHEN LINE IS CLEAR AFTER BEING OBSTRUCTED.

        22. - When the Line is again clear, no train must be allowed to pass the point of obstruction without the Tablet and the Pilotman. The Pilotman must accompany the train carrying the Tablet to the Tablet Station to which the train was was proceeding at the time of the accident, and after the Driver has given up the Tablet to the Signalman, and the Pilotman has withdrawn his arrangements for Pilot Working, the traffic will again be conducted in accordance with these regulations.
